About

Sirch is the emotive-electronic project of Canadian-based musician and sound artist Chris Szott.

Introduced to the guitar at the age of five, his passion for all things sound led to him becoming a multi-instrumentalist and studying music and sound engineering in London, UK.

Sirch's approach is evocative of past memories and the future unknown. A skillful combination of ambient, experimental, electronic-folk, downtempo, and all sounds in-between proves a strikingly surreal experience. His universally praised debut album “North of Fifty-Four” has received support from both local and international radio, and the song “Beach Babies” earned Sirch. the “DJ/Electronic Recording of the Year” from the 2014 Edmonton Music Awards. His work also includes commissions for arts-cultural events and contemporary theatre. He currently resides in Edmonton, AB.

Press

“In North of Fifty-Four, Szott creates fascinating soundscapes that incorporate diverse tracks, including audio from historical films, joyful chatter from home videos, and his own field recordings. While the album is skilfully arranged to create and atmospheric, soothing experience, Szott included plenty of creative surprises for the attentive listener.” - Libby Stoker-Lavelle, Cottage North Magazine

“[Sirch.] weaves sounds from his childhood, National Film Board clips, and mining/tourist board videos to produce an eerie, electro-ambient retrospective of his life to date, both bittersweet and reaffirming. ...Charming and seductive — you’ll want one of your own memory soundtracks after listening to North of Fifty-Four.” - Sandra Sperounes, Edmonton Journal

“In the endlessly dense genre of “electronic” music, the creativity of Sirch.’s North of Fifty-Four serves as a reminder of how interesting the genre can prove to be. As ambitious with his samples as early Books releases, and as poetic as Boards of Canada, Sirch. is a bold intersection of folk-stories and sound.” - PinkKiosk, Argue Job
